I am very excited about my up and coming event! My first Fiber Art Show. I will be showcasing all of my finished work. I will also, have quilted are work by Shirley Smith, my daughter, and possibility my sister. I am busy completing more small art works. I'm expecting a great crowd. A couple of my co-workers gave me some great music to add a charismatic atmosphere. A great time is planned for all who attend.

The pictured quilt "Stars of Africa" is a tellessation, a design created using one pattern. This is one of my largest completed pieces measuring 64” X 52”. It is made of many different type of African fabrics.

This is an African Watercolor wallhanging. It's constructed using 3" squares of many different types of African cotton, woven, and mudcloth fabrics. The beading is African beads and cowrie shells. The original designer Lisa Shepard-Steward from New York, who I had the opportunity to work with several years ago, has been a big inspiration in the area of designing. I have taken her design and added a twist which she encourage all to do. This wallhanging is displayed in the teacher's lounge at Alain Locke Charter School in Chicago, Illinois and is enjoyed by all.

It has been awhile since I last posted my work, yet I have been quite busy. For the Fast Friday Fabric Challenge #10, the challenge was to create a quilt using material not bought at a fabric store, spending no more than $5.00. This quilt was created using a lei I bought from the dollar store. I took the lei apart sewing the petals together creating my background. The straw pieces used to separate the petals were put together to create the tree. I bought the birds from a resale shop. They were natural in color, I add color to the birds to give it a tropical look. I call this quilt "Paradise."

This month for Fast Friday Fabric Challenge #7, I had to create something using a fabric I've never worked with before. I choose to try working with leather. The diamonds were cut from a leather suite jacket I got dirt cheap at a resale shop. The jacket is a hazy grey color. I decided to spruce it up with color experimenting with different paints to see what affect I would obtain. I tried: shavia paintstick, acrylic, lumiere, and fabric dyes. The results are astonishing. I cut diamond shapes from the leather and incorporated one of each type of paint. I add texture on several of the diamonds. The background fabric also has designs of diamonds with same colors my diamonds. This wallhanging it titled “Dancing Diamonds”, and measures 11’ X 11.”

For Fast Friday Fabric Challenge #4, I had several books to choose one liners from. And to my surprise the first line of each book had a theme dealing with a nature scene – my favorite. I decided to go with a book I read last February; One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. This first line begin with: Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, Colonel Aureliano Buendia was to remember that distance afternoon when his father took him to discover ice.
I decided to focus on creating the ice. This is the technique used to achieve the ice; I started with crinkled tissue paper. I used a water/glue mixture to glue the paper to the muslin, I’m not sure if this count as value contract, however, I used blue, turquoise, and white dye and paint to color the surface to create the depth of the scene. I appliquéd the pieces to my fabric background and quilted the top. Once completed, I added a little glitter to give a realist feel. I like the way this piece looks considering the fact I didn’t know how this was going to turn out. The quilt measures 12” x 18” This is my fist time posting on the blog; therefore, I look forward to you comments.
